Abstract
Expansive soils have always been a problem for Civil Engineers. A lot of research has gone into the investigations relating to solutions for controlling the expansive nature of expansive soils. Lime has been a proven material in soil stabilization. Several industrial byproducts have been used along with lime due to their pozzolanic nature for improved performance in soil stabilization. Rice Husk Ash (RHA) obtained by burning of rice hulls from rice mills is one such byproduct with good pozzolanic activity. In this study, an attempt has been made to understand the effect of lime on the index properties of soil stabilized with RHA. Random trial percentages of lime and RHA were used for studying the effect of stabilization on the index properties as they are indirect indicators of engineering behaviour of soils.

Keywords: Rice husk ash, lime, index properties, expansive soil.
