Hi there!
Getting time to post something after long time. This time around, I am posting the complete syllabus for B.E., Civil Engineering along with a what's different kind of discussion in the new 2013 regulation.
As I had already mentioned in an earlier post, this new regulation does have a lot of changes. When I first posted about this regulation, only the syllabus for I year had been released. So I could make only a superficial comparison. You can read that earlier post here. But now after seeing the complete syllabus, the academicians who have prepared the regulation this time around, have made some noteworthy changes.
To cite a few, the subject, Construction Techniques, Equipment and Practices has been moved to semester V, reducing the number of subjects to 6 from the earlier 7 in semester III. Highway Engineering has been moved to semester V; in its place comes a new subject called Construction Materials in semester IV. In semester V, Irrigation Engineering has been moved to semester VII under a new name, Water Resources and Irrigation Engineering along with Railways, Airport and Harbour Engineering which has been moved to semester VI. Survey Camp comes in semester V itself instead of semester VI, whereas Concrete and Highway Engineering lab has been move to semester VI instead.
In semester VI, Principles of Management has been moved to semester VIII, whereas Design of RC and Brick Masonry Structures finds a place in that semester, instead of the earlier VII semester slot. Construction Planning and Scheduling finds no place in the core, having been pushed to Elective list. Environment and Irrigation Engineering Laboratory has been done away with. What a relief!!! Those irrigation drawings are tough. Semester VII, Basics of Dynamics and Aseismic Design gets a new name, Structural Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, atleast that's what I think. Here's the googly in this regulation, Estimation and Quantity Surveying is no more... wait! It is no more a theory subject but it has been converted to practical subject! Yeah, don't rub your eyes. You read it correct, it is a practical henceforth, atleast until the next regulation. Thus semester VII has one subject less but one practical more.
Good bye Engineering Economics and Cost Analysis, in semester VIII. It has been replaced by Principles of Management as mentioned earlier. Number of electives remain the same and they remain in the respective semesters. The list of electives also has some changes here and there. Guess I have covered the overall gist of changes in the new regulation. If time permits, I'll do an in depth analysis of the subject syllabi as well. If I have left any or you have anything to say regarding the changes, please feel free to reply via comments. Anyway, here is the new regulation for you to download.
